SHOUTOUT LA
We had the good fortune of connecting with Evan Jurgensen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Evan, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I was born and raised in the San Gabriel Valley in Monrovia. I went to high school in Camarillo and college in Santa Barbara and came back to LA – LA will always be home to me. I was a tennis player in college which led me to become a sports agent for several years in Beverly Hills after college. The sports industry world is tough – it’s a lot of hours and traveling in high-stress environments. But it taught me a lot about building a career and the importance of tenacity.
Interestingly, I met Doug and Jack Cline of Team Cline, part of Lee & Associates Los Angeles – Downtown about eight years ago through my best friend who works out of our City of Industry office. He made a recommendation for me to join the Lee & Associates team. The commercial real estate industry is a job I find that correlates with the amount of effort you put in and the success that you have and what I was looking for in a career. I work with a great group of people.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I was completely new to the commercial real estate industry starting out, but I was most fulfilled seeing that in this career, the effort I put in is equal to my success which I don’t think you always find in other businesses. I worked under Doug and Jack Cline when I started in the business about eight years ago, and we continue to grow a great business in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles. We opened our office in Downtown Los Angeles in May 2022 as I had seen the opportunity with all of the area creative office space and new restaurant and brewery establishments popping up that are clients. LA is evolving and downtown is a great hub especially related to the cost of living on the West Side; it has great amenities. The businesses that are opening up here and the people that are choosing to live here are seeking a lifestyle beyond the ‘cookie cutter’ vibe and to find places with character that they can easily walk to and from.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
It’s no coincidence that some of my favorite places are downtown – I love the walkability and choices from places to eat, drink and shop.
Benny Boy Brewing is a great new spot located in the heart of Lincoln Heights. It has a great beer garden, pop-up food vendors daily, and live band karaoke which is a great place to pull up a chair with friends and just enjoy the sights, sounds and taste of the city.
Another favorite spot of mine is Highland Park Brewery in Chinatown. The brewery is focused on discovery and adventure with its menu that focuses on a range of hoppy beers, crisp lagers, and bold stouts – evidenced also on their range of cans like “Wowee,” “Baseball Lager,” “Ocean Pale Ale,” and “Hello LA” – a great welcome to the city.
I also really like 101 Cider House. People call it an ‘adults only’ juice bar and the 101 Cider House works with local farms to produce the raw juice they use in the ciders.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
