Bus contractor takes 72,000 sq. ft. for North Bergen van depot, Lee & Associates says
A transportation company has expanded its footprint with a new 72,000-square-foot industrial lease in North Bergen, in a deal arranged by Lee & Associates New Jersey.
According to the real estate services firm, the space at 5901 Tonnelle Ave. will serve as a van depot for First Transit, allowing it to serve all of Bergen County and parts of Passaic County. Lee & Associates New Jersey’s Scott Deutchman represented the tenant in the lease with Realterm, marking the third time he has represented the public transportation contracting and management services provider in a deal in northern New Jersey.
“First Transit has a contract with NJ Transit’s Access Link, which provides public transportation to people with disabilities who are unable to use local bus service,” Deutchman said. “Having previously placed them in a 50,000-square-foot location in Elmwood Park and an 82,000-square-foot space in Newark, we were familiar with the highly specific needs for this new van depot.”
Deutchman said the site search centered on proximity to the designated client service area, adding that the location needed to be zoned for a 24/7 transportation operation. That meant a freestanding, single-tenant building, while the site also had to have ample drive-in bays for van servicing and maintenance, as well as parking for at least 100 employees.
“Situated on nearly four acres with a highly functional layout and convenient access to regional transportation routes, 5901 Tonnelle Avenue is a perfect fit,” Deutchman said. “We are pleased to have been able to represent First Transit in three successful transactions to help ensure seniors and those with special needs in New Jersey get the essential services they need.”
