Retail tenants, landlords get creative with rents in time of crisis

For tenants who find themselves unable to make rent and looking for support, Lee & Associates senior director Jake Plotkin says it’s important to be prepared.
“I’d recommend … they have their sales for 2019 and the months through this year so they can have a meaningful conversation with the landlord,” he says.
It’s important to show that the crisis is what’s causing the trouble, Plotkin says, and to show with numbers that without the pandemic the business would be able to meet its obligations.
